Madeline Island
Just a 20-minute ferry ride away during spring, summer and fall, Madeline Island offers great restaurants and shopping plus a historical museum that chronicles Native American life, the fur trade and arrival of missionaries, 19th century fishing, logging, brownstone mining and maritime lore.
Madeline Island has a rich art community with art galleries, artists’ studios, a renowned music camp and one of the top ranked art and craft schools in the country. The island also offers some of the area’s most beautiful parks, camping, a world class marina and an 18-hole golf course.
Explore the historic town of La Pointe, which is easily walkable from the ferry landing. The downtown area offers plenty to see and do, with several access points to Lake Superior. Take your vehicle on the ferry to visit the rest of Madeline Island, which is roughly twelve miles long. Be sure to stop by Big Bay Town Park and Big Bay State Park, which offer incredible views and hiking trails suited for all levels.
