Name: The Architecture Of Light - Madeline Island School of the Arts
Date: July 28, 2014 - August 1, 2014
Event Description:

This watercolor workshop is open to artists of all levels.

The theme of this workshop is finding the dialogue between the architecture of man and the architecture of nature, and how to see compositions in the most grand and most humble of scenes.  During this class, you will explore the endlessly compelling compositional possibilities on these topics.

You will also cover the basics of perspective composition and fundamentals of drawing, and see how these basics are the root of a successful painting.  Simple black and white pencil sketches from site observation, or from photographs will be completed, and you will discuss how the three basic values, black/white/grey can be arranged for form the basis of a final watercolor painting.

Every day, after a demo by Tom, you will explore exercises that highlight the depiction of skies, water, architecture, landscapes and atmospheric conditions.  By the end of the week, you will be asked to develop compositions that incorporate all the elements discussed.

Tom will provide plenty of individual attention, to address any compositional questions you may have. On the afternoon of the final day, Tom will lead an informal exhibit and critique of the work done by the students throughout the week.
