Name: Capturing Color And Light En Plein Air
Date: August 18, 2014 - August 22, 2014
Event Description:

This plein air workshop in oils is open to painters at an intermediate-advanced level.

Join Kami and learn her approach to 'plein air' painting on this incredibly picturesque island. The varied landscapes and our great studio facilities provide you with the best possible setting to learn from her and perfect your appreciation and use of color.

Throughout the week, Kami will share with you her knowledge, passion, and approach to capturing the effect of light on canvas. Her goal during this workshop is to push your work to a new level, and to help you develop a strong understanding of the properties of color.

This workshop is intense and guaranteed to provide you with focus and the organized steps you need to convey a strong sense of place in your paintings.

The first day of the workshop will begin with an inspirational lecture by Kami on her painting fundamentals—Composition, Value, and Color. Kami will provide a demo before lunch, and you will spend the afternoon doing a series of value and color exercises. The following days will build on the fundamentals with progressive quick studies that will develop into full landscape paintings. You can count on leaving the week with the tools to continue growing with your painting.

  • Composition: The bones to every strong painting! We will build your painting with a solid foundation by simplifying the large shapes in your scene as masses on your canvas.
  • Value: Seeing value as color and color as value.
  • Color: Learn to see, mix, and record the effect of light in color.  Understand of the properties of color in value, temperature, and saturation by using a limited palette of a warm and cool of each primary plus white.
  • We are painting an illusion of light, not a literal interpretation.

You can expect to paint several studies each day! Followed by evening art talk and group critiques.
